Sam Smith opens new court

Raising the money for the new court has not been easy and we are grateful particularly to the Sports Council Lottery Fund, Hampshire Playing Field Association and Rushmoor Borough Council for their help.

Britains number one women's tennis player opened our third court on Sunday 11 April 1999.

With her trainer, Essex County player Mary Collins, Sam tried out the court and encouraged some of our younger members by playing a few shots with each of them across the new net; they went home with a specially printed certificate, signed by Sam, as a reminder of the occasion.

About 200 tennis fans of all ages came along to be a part of the event which turned out to be a most enjoyable afternoon.
